The Baldwin Beach Park Pavilion is shown in danger of being undermined by beach erosion Friday morning, even after recently having an oceanside section removed. Waves have washed away sand beneath the pavilion’s concrete pad, claimed a shower and also a portion of the Paia-side asphalt parking lot. The annual loss of sand at the beach has been gradually eating away at the amenities year after year, with each year seeming to claw farther inland. Later every year waves, currents and winds return the sand back to the beach, but not before the erosion has taken another toll.
Eroded Baldwin Beach Park features sand cliffs fronting the lifeguard tower Friday morning.
